![]() It is the practice of the Derry Township School District to discourage excused absences for educational tours or trips during the final two (2) weeks of any school term. ![]() Consideration shall be given to the length of the tour or trip, the number of requests made during the school year and whether the educational tour or trip is likely to advance the educational growth of the student. The principal of the school shall exercise discretion in determining whether to excuse the student from compulsory attendance. This request should be submitted at least ten (10) calendar days prior to the date on which the student seeks to be excused for compulsory attendance. The parents/guardians of a student who wish to have the student excused from compulsory school attendance in order to participate in an educational tour or trip must submit an application to the principal of the school in which the student is enrolled. ![]() The granting of an excuse from compulsory attendance is within the sole discretion of the School District. Such an excuse should be considered a privilege and not a right. Provisions may be made for absences which excuse students from compulsory attendance for a tour or trip which may be considered educational in nature. Derry Township School District encourages full compliance with the compulsory attendance provisions set forth in the Regulations of the State Board of Education and the Public School Code of 1949, as amended.
